Shoebox Zoo

Hello!
We are Joy's Zoo.  She bought us on "after Valentine's Day Clearance" for really inexpensive prices.  We are going to be sent to kids around the world in Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes in November.  Maybe you can go out and buy some of our friends NOW for your shoeboxes and bring joy to another child's life!

(All of these animals were purchased for less that $2.50 each, 3 were free, 8 were under $1.50... check out the bargains at your stores now)

Want to keep updated on when there are great sales for shoebox items? Contact joy at joy@firste.org

153 - What's Your Story?

153

What does that mean? It's from John 21:1-14 where the disciples were out fishing and hadn't caught anything all night. Jesus tells them to cast their net on the other side of the boat. They obey and have a miraculous catch of 153 fish.

There's nothing magic about the number 153, but we want to set a goal to strive toward this year. We want to add 153 'fish' to our First E family this year as New Believers, Baptisms, or New Members.  Last Sunday we were challenged to

Join the Mission - Acts 1-9
Listen to the Spirit
Share your Story
Pray with Purpose
Give Freely
Meet a Need
Read the Word
Step up to Leadership

And to share our stories with 7 people this year.

We want to hear your progress (or struggles) in any / all of the above challenges. Email us at 153@firste.org and let us know how you are doing

Join us this Sunday at 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. for the next chapter in 153 - Outrageous Fish Stories

Practical Way to Support Corrinne Rice

Are you looking for a way to support one of our missionary’s? In a recent email from Corrinne Rice, who is currently serving in Tanzania Africa, she shares how we can help in some tangible ways.

Many people have been asking me what we need here at Sunrise, so I have compiled a list of items that we need, many of which are not available in town.
I will add more as I think of them and of course as the needs arise!

Gold bond powder (the kids have lots of itches!)
Pepto Bismal, Immodium AD, Tylenol, etc (the kids have tummy issues sometimes)
Antibiotic ointment
Deodorant
Wash cloths
Nail clippers
Umbrellas
Ponchos (for children and adults)
Work gloves (with grip)
Coat hooks (these can be easily screwed into the walls)
Nalgene-type water bottles (Needed to store boiled and filtered water in)
Clothespins
Notepads (post-its, small legal pads, etc)
Ziploc bags (gallon and quart sized)
Coloring books
Markers
Glue sticks
Play clothes for boys and girls (sizes 6-12)
Girls' tights (sizes 6-12)
Boys' belts
Granola bars
Jerky
Foil salmon/tuna packets
Soup mixes
Sauce packets (gravy, teriyaki, tomato sauce, anything!)
Puzzles
Toys (little balls, jumps ropes, matchbox cars, anything that lights up, etc)
Disney or Veggie Tale DVDs (Every weekend we all huddle around my laptop for movie night, the kids love it!)

Also if you would like to help with funds for sending these items, you can make a check out to First Evangelical Church and in the memo line please write: postage for Corrinne Rice. All donations can be given to Ann Wanous or left in the Youth Office and we will package these items and send them off to Corrinne.

If you are able to access the internet her current information is at: www.corrinnerice.blogspot.com or on facebook. Also if you would like to send her an email she goes to the village once a week, usually on Thursdays. It would be a great encouragement for her to receive a note from you, letting her know you are praying. corrinne.rice@gmail.com

Church Pictorial Directories are here

The church pictorial directories are here and we will have them available Sunday morning in the church Office.

If you had your picture taken for the directory, we have a pictorial directory set aside for you with your name on it.

If you are a regular attender and didn't have your picture taken, we have a limited number of directories available. At this point we have to limit it to 1 per family, and ask that you only pick one up for your immediate family (not your siblings' families, or friends). We are checking into getting additional directories and will have information about the 'online' version soon.

New Class - February 5 - Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament

The stories of the Old Testament are not only stories of history but testimonies of who Christ would be, painting a picture so that when He arrived we would know who He is (Luke 13:27). Understanding these Scriptures from the Old Testament and New Testament will give substance to our faith as we realize that all history points to Christ. The class will focus on both the events which take place and miracles of Christ and Old Testament Jesus types to who Christ is and His purpose.

Join Jake Smith and Bruce Veltkamp Sundays at 10:00 a.m. in room 234.

New Class - Boundaries with Kids - Feb 5

2. Kids Need Parents with Boundaries
