Winter Adult BIBLE STUDY:
No Other Gods - by Kelly Minter
Learn To Identify the Functional Gods You May Be Serving
Often, idols are obvious—money, power, fame. But subtler idols can sometimes take the form of loved ones, Instagrammable interiors, and busy seasons of work, motherhood, or ministry. But if your heart is prioritizing any of those pursuits before God, you’re missing the unrivaled joy and adventure of Jesus being your heart’s ultimate treasure.
In this 8-session, revised and expanded study, learn to identify the functional gods you may be unknowingly serving and the lies they tell. As you dethrone your modern-day idols, you’ll be set free for the deeper, more abundant life Jesus came to give you—discovering that Jesus can do what no other god can.
The study starts on January 16th offering both a Men’s group and a Ladies’ group study of the Sermon on the Mount. This is a 8 session study from 9:45 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. each Thursday. The video study includes a workbook. The Men’s study is in the Sanctuary led by Mike Radmacher and the Ladies study is in the Fireside Room led by Laura Schoenborn.
Cost for the workbook is $15.00. Scholarships for a workbook are available upon request.
If you have questions or wish to sign up, please contact Salli Sether at LBS@firste.org
If you have a desire to deepen your knowledge of God and your love for God through a better understanding of scripture along with a desire to build friendships and support through fellowship with other Christian women, we invite you to join us as Women in the Word.
We will be meeting in the Fireside Room Monday nights from 6:00 -7:30 beginning January 27th through April 6th. There will be no gathering on March 2 or March 30th.
Women in the Word is a different format! There will be no homework or half hour video commentary. Instead, our time together will allow us: to have time for fellowship. 😊 Then after a brief introduction of the scripture for the session, time will be available for you to interact with the text in a variety of ways. After that, we can share our insights and questions as we discuss how we can apply what we learned about God’s character and direction for our lives.
In short, most of our time will be spent interacting in meaningful ways with God’s word and sharing with one another.
Our first series for Women in the Word will be working in Galatians, since we will already have some common understanding of the scripture thru Pastor Steve’s sermons. Pam and Amy will also be drawing from Max Lucado’s commentary on Galatians and Jen Wilkin’s Women of the Word as they prepare each week for you.
A donation of $ 5 is appreciated to help cover the cost of materials is appreciated but not necessary. Childcare will be arranged per request. Please let us know if you have any questions.
May the Lord bless you.
